Mark Hacking Waives Preliminary Hearing

Thursday September 23, 2004
A handcuffed Mark Hacking, wearing a bullet-proof vest, appeared in a Salt Lake City court to waive his right to a preliminary hearing on charges related to the murder of his wife Lori who has been missing since July.

Waiving the preliminary hearing means that the defendant is acknowledging that the state has enough evidence for a trial. Another hearing is set for Oct. 29 at which time a trial date will likely be scheduled.

Hacking, 28, is being held in jail in lieu of $1 million bail, which is has been unable to raise. Lori Hackings's body has yet to be found.
