A nationwide Amber Alert has been issued for a 12-year-old Virginia girl after her mother's slain body was found in their home after she failed to show up for work for two days. Tina Smith, 41, was found dead in her Roanoke County home and her daughter, Brittany Mae Smith, is missing.Brittany is thought to be with 32-year-old Jeff Easley who was living with her mother, police said.
Tina and Brittany were last seen alive Friday, Dec. 3. When Tina failed to show up for her job at a nursing home, co-workers asked police to check on her at her two-story home on a cul-de-sac. Officers got no answer at the door and because there were no cars in the driveway, they did not force their way inside.
In Extreme Danger
When Tina failed to show up the next day at work, a co-worker with a house key went to the home and found Smith's body. Investigators have not said how she died.
Police immediately began looking for Easley's SUV and Tina's sedan. Easley's Chevrolet SUV was located, but Tina's silver 2005 Dodge Neon with Virginia license XKF-2365 is still missing.
Friends told investigators that Easley (left) and Tina Smith met over the Internet and started a relationship. A few months ago, Easley moved in with Tina at her home on Fort Lewis Circle. Police believe that Brittany was abducted by Easley and is in "extreme danger."
Brittany is a seventh-grader at Glenvar Middle School.
