The stepmother of a missing Oregon 7-year-old attempted to hire someone to kill her husband several months before the boy disappeared from his school's science fair June 4, according to several media sources. Terri Horman reportedly tried to hire her landscaper to kill her husband, Kaine Horman, the father of missing second-grader Kyron Horman.Terri Horman was the last person to report seeing Kyron on June 4 walking toward his classroom from the science fair, she said.
Several news outlets reported that the landscaper told police that he was offered "a large sum of money" to kill Kaine Horman. Investigators are trying to determine if others were also approached with the murder-for-hire offer.
Filed for Restraining Order
Quoting unnamed sources, news reporters said when Kaine Horman was told by police of the murder-for-hire plot he filed for divorce and obtained a restraining order to keep her away from himself and their daughter.
After he moved out of the couple's house in northwest Portland, Terri Horman hired high-profile criminal defense attorney Stephen Houze.
Terri Horman has not been named a suspect in the disappearance of Kyron, nor has she been charged with any crime. Authorities have also not yet called the case a kidnapping, although the FBI joined the investigation a few days after Kyron disappeared.
