Joran Van der Sloot, suspect in the death of a 21-year-old Peruvian woman who was found beaten and stabbed to death in his hotel room, has been arrested in Chile. Van der Sloot, who was the chief suspect in the disappearance of Natalee Holloway in Aruba, will be returned to Peru today to face charges in the death of Stephany Flores Ramirez.Also Wednesday, extortion charges were filed in the United States against Van der Sloot for trying to collect $250,000 in exchange for the location of Holloway's body.
Van der Sloot was arrested while traveling alone in a taxi toward the Chilean coast. He was detained near the city of Vina del Mar and was transported to police headquarters in Santiago. When he was arrested, Van der Sloot's hair had been dyed red and cut very short, as if he was trying to change his appearance.
Chilean authorities said Van der Sloot would be taken to the airport and turned over to Peruvian authorities today.
Extortion Charges Files in the U.S.
Meanwhile, charges were filed in Birmingham, Alabama accusing Van der Sloot of asking for money in exchange for information about the location of Natalee Holloway's remains in Aruba, according to U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance.
Vance said Van der Sloot received a partial payment of $15,000 on May 10, 2010 "after representing to the other person that he would provide the location of Natalee Holloway's remains in Aruba and information regarding the circumstances of her death."
Four days after receiving the $15,000, Joran flew to Peru to participate in a poker tournament at a casino. He stayed in the Hotel Tac in Lima's Miraflores district since May 14. It was in that hotel room where the body of Stephany Flores Ramirez was found.
Family members told reporters that Stephany was beaten so badly that she was barely recognizable. One of her eyes was missing and her neck was broken. She was also stabbed. There was blood all over the room, police said.

I am so saddened everyday I watch the news about this horrible act Joran Van Der Sloot (monster!) committed to these beautiful girls/daughters. My heart hurt so bad! I pray to God everyday that justice will be served. He will and has to pay for such a horrible act.

If the Arubian courts had done their job in the Natalee Holloway case,this new case would have never happened. His Daddy got him out of that one–let’s see if Daddy can help him now! If Joran van der Sloot indeed is tried (unless new evidence surfaces to show some1 else did it he most likely will be), then the prosecutors will present their case & the defense will present theirs. It’s possible that Joran van der Sloot could be convicted of 2nd Degree Murder instead of 1st as we don’t know the circumstances other than what’s reported. If the Peruvian courts believe that the evidence is weak, then yes, he could be acquitted or if evidence surfaced which proves Joran van der Sloot is innocent (which again based on press reports we think he did it). But whether or not Joran van der Sloot is the killer (as the press & most here believe he is), hopefully the Peruvian autorities & court system will be fair & neutrally evaluate the proof before deciding the verdict. Again, remember that dead lesbians can’t molest young girls.
Predictably, some people discuss the 1995 Simpson trial but there were reasonable doubts in that case. K, it depends on what you define is a homosexual is. My definition involves same sex behaviors-men having sex with men & women having sex with women. As to Jorandreus Petraeus van der Sloot, he probably did kill Stephany Flores. Why did it happen? That’s for the Peruvian courts to determine, presuming that he is the killer. As to Nataleeann Holloway, did he & the Kalpoe bros. kill her? It’s possible but the Aruban police don’t believe they have enough evidence prove this & he & the Kalpoe bros. were released shortly after their arrests because the authorities determined that the evidence wasn’t enough.

It’s even possible that he is innocent of both bases & had nothing to do with either women’s deaths, but it doesn’t look that way. But why was Stephany Flores killed? Presuming his confession is to be believed & he did it, only he knows why he did it. Ordinary people can commit murder if given the circumstances, but 2nd Degree Murder conviction will send you away for a long time. Yes, it’s possible for a man to be innocent in the 1st case, but guilty in the 2nd case. He wasn’t a killer the 1st time round, but he is the 2nd time. That’s what another poster has suggested.
