Attorneys for a Florida woman facing murder charges for the death of her 2-year-old daughter have requested that taxpayers help pay for her mounting legal expenses. Casey Anthony's lawyers also want to exclude some of the evidence against her at trial for the death of Caylee Anthony.A trial date has been tentatively set for May 2012 as Casey remains in jail.
Defense attorneys filed motions this week seeking state financial assistance. They argue that it is the only way that Anthony will get a fair trial. They want taxpayers to pay for the cost of travel, serving subpoenas, hiring experts, deposing witnesses and investigating expenses involved.
Defense Moves to Exclude Evidence
The defense also filed motions to try to block the jury from getting any of the following evidence:
- The 9-1-1 telephone call from Cindy Anthony saying that her car smelled like a dead body. The lawyers argued that since Caylee had already been missing 31 days, the phone call was not spontaneous or reliable.
- They also do not want the jury to see the many photos of Casey partying at various nightclubs. The defense motion said the photos "paint a picture of an irresponsible, drunken, promiscuous and wild defendant" and contain "inflammatory imagery that would unfairly prejudice Miss Anthony before a jury."
- The attorneys also requested that the judge throw out "hearsay" statements from Casey's friends and family that characterize her as a thief, liar and a bad mother.

Well the way I have to look at this, if the state is to indeed pay for her defense, then she should get a state appointed public defender and no one else. Isn’t that the way it works for all others that are convicted of a crime and cannot pay their lawyer ??
Glenn, I so agree with you. If they want the state to pay, then all of her attorneys should leave and give her a a public defender. Whats this action also, wanting to leave out some of the evidence? Why not just let her out and go her merry way!! I cannot believe they would even ask for this.
I just bet she does want the state to pay!! Also, most of the evidence should be thrown out to accomodate her too. When donkeys fly!!! It is what it is, forget this little request Casey and Bozo. The state did not murder her child, they did not hide the body so why should they pay for her DUfense team? How stupid is this anyway? What planet did she come from? This is the most ridiculous request I have ever heard a criminal make. If the judge agrees to this, he needs to be unbenched also. She went after Bozo, now let her find a way to pay him and if she can’t, too darn bad, maybe she can steal it from someone.
This woman has wasted millions already, her defence team should be locked up their just press hungry hounds looking to gain fame … disgusting, maybe one theyll be a victim of such a crime and lets see how they feel then.
I agree w/Glenn–very good point: fair is fair. I’m wondering why the trial is set so far in the future.
Of course the lawyers want to be paid, and the accused isn’t smart enough to ask for the most inc riminating evidence to be thrown out. This whole thing is a first class example of a legal system run amok>
This is utterly ridiculous, what is wrong with this girl; after she killed her beautiful daughter did she fall and bump her dam head. She had to,to have such a stupid request. I don’t understand her rational behind this I’m afraid she’s gonna get away with murder. This just cannot happen. Her and her defence team needs to be buried under the jail.
Casey should be locked up in an institute for the insane. I can’t believe that they are going to wait until May 2012 to put her on trial…That is a waste of money for sure…
Having worked in the legal field for 39 years, I can tell you, her attorneys are doing whatever they can to get her off, regardless of what the truth is, punch a hole in the People’s/State’s very substantial case.
That is their job: defending this psychopathic monster.
Criminal defense attorneys are the scum of the earth, but someone has to defend these sick people, regardless of fairness and truth and justice, and they’ll do anything and say anything, always leaving in an element of truth while they think they can charm and bedazzle the jurors and sometimes inept judge, who is also dealing with his/her own narcissism.
Good Lord you people are so very, very ignorant.
THIS IS A WOMAN WHO DIDN’T REPORT HER WEE GIRL MISSING FOR 31 DAYS..;BECAUSE SHE KNEW WHERE SHE WAS..A LIAR,CHEAT CON ARTIST AND A MOTHER(A I USE THE TERM LOOSELY) WHO MURDERED HER CHILD..SHE IS A SICK PUPPY WHO KNOWS HOW TO USE THE SYSTEM TO HER ADVANTAGE..WHAT A WASTE OF SKIN..
I agree with Glen. If she is getting state money, she should have a public defender on her case. I feel bad for the Florida taxpayers and of course for the poor girl who was killed.
I think it’s also interesting to follow the Casey Anthony v. Zenaida Gonzalez case. I know Morgan and Morgan is handling this case. They have some pretty interesting information on their site.
I am amazed at some of the things you people blame her Casey for asking her attorney is the one who filed it on her behalf, she had to ask for it he being the attorney could have said no; and there’s a lot of evidence that you won’t see or hear about, and to the lady who said defense attorney’s are scum everyone is entitled to a fair trail and I know some prosecuting attorneys that are worse than defense,it just like any job or career you have your good with bad, good cops and bad ones
It is what it is, forget this lowercase petition Casey and Bozo. The verbalise did not remove her mortal, they did not conceal the embody so why should they pay for her DUfense aggroup? How boneheaded is this anyway? What follower did she originate from? This is the most silly missive I hump e’er heard a wrongdoer act. If the jurist agrees to this, he needs to be unbenched also.
