The murder trial of the man accused in the death of Chandra Levy has been postponed for 10 months because prosecutors plan to add more charges to the indictment. Ingmar Guandique's murder trial is now scheduled to begin Oct. 4, 2010.The trial had been scheduled to begin in January.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Fernando Campoamor did not reveal the additional charges that prosecutors intend to file in the case during the hearing in a Washington D.C. Superior Court.
Chandra Levy disappeared in May 2001 shortly after completing a federal internship in Washington. Her body was found a year later in Rock Creek Park.
Guandique was serving a 10-year federal prison sentence in California for two other attacks in the same park where Levy's body was found.
The case made national headlines when Levy was linked romantically to former U.S. Rep. Gary Condit during the investigation into her disappearance. Condit was never named a suspect in the case.
