Underwood Guilty in Cannibalism Murder

Monday March 3, 2008
An Oklahoma man has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of a 10-year-old girl that he planned to kill, rape, dismember, cook and eat. The trial turned on the videotaped confession of Kevin Underwood in which he described the horrific details of his crime.

The body of Jamie Rose Bolin was found in a plastic tub in a closet in Underwood's apartment in April 2006. She had been hit over the head with a cutting board, smothered, raped and almost decapitated.

Underwood, a 28-year-old former grocery stocker, confessed to police almost immediately. He showed no emotion when the verdict was announced, according to reports.

"He made his choice," Rose Fox, Jamie's grandmother told reporters. "He's a monster in human form. I was for mercy. And then when I found out what he really did to her. He showed her no mercy."

The jury will return today to begin to hear testimony in the penalty phase of the trial. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
