A man authorities believe to be Los Angeles' most prolific serial killer, has been convicted of the murders of 10 women and the unborn child of one of his victims. A jury of six men and six women deliberated since April 26 before finding Chester D. Turner guilty.

Because the jury also found Turner guilty of the special circumstances of murder committed during rape and multiple murders, the same jury will return Wednesday to begin deciding whether or not he will receive the death penalty.

Turner's victims included Regina Washington, 27, and her unborn child; Andrea Tripplett, 29, and her unborn child; Diane Johnson, 21; Annette Ernest, 26; Anita Fishman, 31; Desarae Jones, 29; Natalie Price, 31; Mildred Beasely, 45; and Brenda Bries, 37.

Turner was not charged with the murder of Tripplett's unborn child because she was only 5 1/2 months pregnant and California law at the time specified that a 5 1/2-month old fetus was not yet viable.

More Victims Out There?

Turner was previously convicted of the 2002 rape of a woman on Los Angeles' Skid Row. The DNA evidence in that case linked him to rape and murders in the South L.A. area from 1987 to 1998.

He is also suspected in the murders of three other women that were previously blamed on David Allen Jones, who was convicted of the crimes and served 11 years in prison before DNA evidence cleared him.

Turner has not been charged for those three murders.
