Peggy Jo Conner Pleads Guilty

Tuesday February 13, 2007
As her trial was about to begin, the Pennsylvania woman accused of hitting her neighbor with a baseball bat and trying to cut the unborn baby from her womb, changed her plea to guilty. Peggy Jo Conner pleaded guilty to attempted homicide, kidnapping and two counts of aggravated assault.

"I think she wanted to take responsibility and have that going for her in the sentencing hearing," Conner's attorney, David J. DeFazio, told reporters. "She is facing repercussions to her behavior but, given her options, I think she is satisfied."

According to investigators, Conner hit Valerie Oskin with a baseball bat, then took her to a secluded wooded area and sliced Oskin's belly in an attempt to cut out the child. She was interrupted by an teenager who happened by on a ATV.

Both Oskin and her baby survived the attack.

The guilty plea came two weeks after DeFazio announced that he would not be using an insanity defense following an evaluation of Conner by a court-appointed mental health expert.

A judge will now determine Conner's degree of guilt and determine her sentence, under the plea agreement.
