Two Arrested Duke Players May Have Alibis
Two Duke University lacrosse players posted $400,000 bonds after they were arrested early Tuesday on charges of kidnapping and raping a stripper who was hired to dance at an off-campus team party March 13, but attorneys say they may have proof the two were not at the party at the time..
A third suspect is expected to be arrested in the case, authorities said.
Reade Seligmann, of Essex Fells, N.J., and Collin Finnerty, of Garden City, N.Y., are both sophomores on the Duke lacrosse team. They were arrested and transported to the Durham County jail in separate patrol cars in spite of an offer from their attorneys to have them surrender themselves to police on Monday.
Seligmann's attorney, Kirk Osborn said his client is "absolutely innocent. He's doing great. That's all I have to say."
From the beginning of the investigation, all 46 members of the Duke lacrosse team have denied the charges of the 27-year-old black woman, a mother of two children, who said three of the players strangled, raped and sodomized her in a bathroom at the team party.
Attorneys for the team members have said there was not only no rape at the party, there was no sex, as the DNA tests proved.
FOX News is reporting that defense attorneys say there are "credit card receipts, ATM receipts and/or taxi cab receipts that may establish that one or both of the accused players were not at the off-campus Durham house in which the alleged rape took place at the time of the alleged attack."
Initial DNA test results failed to link any of the players to the alleged victim. However, District Attorney Mike Nifong asked a grand jury indict the players yesterday on kidnapping and rape charges.
Nifong said he is working to identify a third player in the case, who will be indicted and arrested later.
