Hearing Set in Georgia Dentist's Case

Tuesday December 20, 2005
Attorneys for a Georgia dentist, who is accused of killing is wife in 2004 and his girlfriend in 1990, will argue that jurors in one trial should not hear about charges his faces in the other, in a hearing set for Feb. 17.

Barton Corbin faces murder charges in Gwinnett County, Georgia for the murder of his wife, Jennifer Corbin, and faces charges in Richmond County, Georgia for the death of Dorothy (Dolly) Hearn.

Corbin's attorney will argue Feb. 17 that Gwinnett prosecutors cannot tell the jury about the murder charges in Richmond County. The Gwinnett trial is scheduled to begin first.

But prosecutors say there are several similarities between the two deaths -- both women were trying to end their relationship with Corbin, both died of a single gunshot wound to the head and their deaths were staged to look like suicides.

The defense also wants the judge to suppress evidence from a police wiretap of Corbin's cell phone and items gathered during searches of his house and truck, because they say the search warrants were too vague and there was no probable cause for them to be granted.
