One Iowa Escapee Captured in Illinois
One of the two Iowa inmates who escaped from the Iowa State Penitentiary was captured near the Menard State Penitentiary in Southern Illinois after prison officials noticed someone sleeping in a car nearby.
Martin Moon, 34, was captured with the help of a police dog after a short chase, officials said. Moon, who was serving a life sentence for first-degree murder, escaped from Iowa State Penitentiary with Robert Joseph Legendre, 27.
The manhunt for Legendre is now nationwide. Moon told investigators that he and Legendre split up immediately after escaping from the Iowa prison while they were on a work detail.

"He could be anywhere," said Gene Meyer, director of the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
Legendre is serving a life sentence for kidnapping and homicide. He was originally convicted in Nevada, but was transferred to Iowa in 2004 to serve his sentence at the Fort Madison facility.
