BTK Serial Killer Sends Cereal Box Message

Wednesday January 26, 2005
Wichita police are now investigating another message reportedly from the BTK Killer after a postcard sent to a local television station lead reporters and police to a cereal box in a remote location north of the city.

The BTK -- bind, torture, kill -- killer, who dropped out of sight after he killed eight people in Wichita from 1974 until 1986, resurfaced in March 2004 when he began sending a series of letters and packages to the local media. Some of the packages have contained items taken from the victims of BTK.

The latest packaged was referred to as "Communication #8" and lead police to a Post Toasties box leaning against a road sign on a dirt road north of Wichita. The letter T in "Toasties" was circled and the letter B was written above the T and the letter K written below. The box was held in place by a brick.

The postcard was mailed to television station KAKE-TV, which has received past communications from BTK. The card had a return address that matched the address of BTK's first victims in 1974.

KAKE-TV reporters went to the location of the box and called police. They did not look inside the cereal box and police are not yet commenting on its contents.

The postcard also referred to "Communication #7" which was apparently left at another location a week before the cereal box, but reporters found no package at the location described.
