LAPD Studies Facial-Recognition Software

The Los Angeles Police Department is experimenting with facial-recognition software it says will help identify suspects and is seeking a $500,000 federal grant to expand the use of the technology. The use of the software is already under attack by the ACLU, which says it raises privacy and racial profiling concerns. "This is creeping Big Brotherism," said Ramona Ripston, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California.
