Ralph Baze was sentenced to death February 4, 1994 in Rowan County for the murder of two police officers. On January 30, 1992, a Powell County Deputy, Arthur Briscoe, went to Baze’s home regarding warrants from Ohio. He returned with Sheriff Steve Bennett. Baze, using an assault rifle, killed the two police officers. According to the prosecutors office, each officer received three shots in the back.
Each officer was shot three times in the back. One officer was executed with a shot to the back of his head as he tried to crawl away.
Baze was arrested the same day in Estill County.
