On Friday, March 11, 2005, Fulton County sheriff's Sgt. Hoyt "Keith" Teasley was shot and killed by Brian Nichols during the infamous Atlanta Courthouse Killings. Teasley tried to stop Brian Nichols who was on trial for rape when he took the gun from a female deputy and shot and killed the judge and a court reporter.

Teasley is survived by his wife Deborah, and his daughters DeKeisha, 13, and Deona, 7.
