On Aug. 5, 2009, Rebecca Nichols, 37, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, after a 16-year-old boy told his mother that he and Nichols were involved in a sexual relationship and that Nichols gave him alcohol and marijuana before having sex.
Investigators said the relationship began after Nichols left her job as a clerical aid at East Lawrence High School in Moulton, Alabama. Nichols is the estranged wife of the school's principal and lost her job when the couple separated.
Not long after leaving her school job Nichols allegedly initiated the sexual relationship with the boy at her home.
The consent age in Alabama is 16 and the boy told police the relationship was consensual, therefore there have been no other charges.
On Sept. 1 Nichols entered a not-guilty plea. The mother of the alleged victim has filed a lawsuit against Nichols and is seeking $52 million in damages.
