Kari Jo Atkinson, 28, of Idaho Falls was a physical education teacher at Sandcreek Middle School when she was arrested on Sept. 10, 2009, for having sexual relations with a 14-year-old male student. The Bonneville County Sheriff's Office said the teacher was charged with five counts of lewd conduct with a child under the age of 16.
Atkinson was placed on paid leave until the investigation is completed.
Update: Dec 18, 2009 - Atkinson pleaded guilty to two felony counts of lewd conduct with a 14-year-old student and was sentenced to 18 years in prison.
