Robert Blake Jury Pool Whittled Down to 75

Final Jury to Be Chosen Dec. 1

After six days of questioning from attorneys, 75 jurors have been approved for the final pool from which 12 will be selected for the murder trial of actor Robert Blake, charged with shooting his wife in 2001.

The approved jurors will return to court December 1 for the final selection process. Originally Judge Darlene Schempp had hoped to hear opening arguments in the case December 1.

Many jurors were eliminated during the selection process because the length of the trial would have caused them a hardship. Others were dismissed when they said they did not want to come under the scrutiny of serving in a high-profile case.

During questioning in the past six days, most of the jurors admitted having heard about Blake being charged with shooting his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, outside a restaurant May 4, 2001. Many of them said that they didn't remember many details because so much time had passed.

Prospective Blake jurors were also questioned about other high-profile cases, including the O.J. Simpson, Scott Peterson and Kobe Bryant cases. Some were dismissed when the expressed opinions about those prosecutions.

When the jury returns to the courtroom Dec. 1, they will be called randomly into the jury box and the prosecution and defense attorneys will have the opportunity to accept or dismiss them individually.
