On the evening of May 6, 2013, screams coming from inside a house located at 2207 Seymour Avenue located on the west end in Cleveland, got the attention of nearby neighbors. Two neighbors went to investigate and found a woman screaming and trying desperately to free herself from the locked house. She identified herself as Amanda Berry, a girl from the area who had been reported missing 10 years ago.

The neighbors helped her kick the bottom panel of the door out until she was able to squeeze through the opening, bringing her 6-year-old daughter out with her.

Using one of the neighbors phone, Berry called 9-1-1 for help, which arrived within minutes. Police then rescued two more women being held captive inside the home; Michelle Knight, who had been missing since 2002 and Gina DeJesus, who had been missing since 2004.

The miraculous rescue of the three women quickly became front page news as did the news about the arrest of their alleged captor, 52-year-old Ariel Castro, who has since been charged with kidnapping and rape.
