On June 15, 2006, nine inmates escaped from the Riverside County Jail in Blythe, California. All of the escapees were eventually captured, except Robert Carlos Cruz who was awaiting trial on an attempted murder charge stemming from a June 19, 2005 shooting in Coachella, California. He remains at large facing additional charges of escape from a penal institution and unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
UPDATE: On March 26, 2008, the FBI reported that Robert Carlos Cruz was arrested in Mexico.
