On May 1, 2001, Washington D.C. intern Chandra Levy disappeared while walking her dog in Rock Creek Park. A year later, someone else walking a dog found her remains. Eight years after her death, an arrest was made in connection with her murder.

During the yearlong search for the missing intern, the political career of U.S. Rep. Gary Condit of California was destroyed after it became public that he had had an affair with Levy after at first denying it. Condit was never officially a suspect in the case.

The El Salvadoran immigrant who was convicted of killing Washington intern Chandra Levy in 2001 has been sentenced to 60 years in prison. Ingmar Guandique insisted that he had nothing to do with Levy's death before his sentence was pronounced.
