Triple Axel Amateur Skater - Tanya Harding
Harding pleaded guilty in 1998 to conspiracy to hinder prosecution after she denied having any prior knowledge of her former husband's plot, which involved hiring a hit man to attack her skating competitor, Nancy Kerrigan.

In what became known as "The Whack Heard 'Round the World" Kerrigan was attacked and beaten on the leg with a metal baton during practices for the 1994 US Championships. Kerrigan had to pull out of the competition and Harding won but was soon in the middle of an investigation involving a plot by her ex-husband Jeff Gillooly to disable Kerrigan so that Harding would get into the Championship.

At first, Harding denied any knowledge of the plot, but in 1998, she admitted she had knowledge that she withheld from investigators. Subsequently she was fined $160,000 and had to perform 500 hours of community service and later stripped of her 1994 national championship and banned by the U.S. Figure Skating for life.
