New Trial Date Set for Phil Spector
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Larry Fidler set September 29 as the date for music producer Phil Spector's second trial for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson in the foyer of his mansion in 2003. Spector's first trial ended in a mistrial when the jury deadlocked.
Clarkson was found Feb. 3, 2003, slumped in a chair in the foyer of Spector's home with a gunshot to her mouth. She left the club where she worked to go home with Spector hours earlier.
Prosecutors said that Spector shot Clarkson while brandishing a gun to try to keep her from leaving -- a pattern of behavior for the legendary rock star. Evidence presented at his first trial indicated that Spector's gun went off when he jammed it in Clarkson's face.
After a five-month trial last year, the jury could not reach a unanimous verdict after 12 days of deliberations. They were deadlocked 10-2 in favor of a guilty verdict.
