'Girls Gone Wild' Creator Ordered Jailed
The founder of the "Girls Gone Wild" videos, who has made a fortune convincing drunken girls to expose their breasts, was ordered to jail for contempt of court by a federal judge. Joe Francis defied the judge and refused to surrender to U.S. marshals, saying it was a case of a "judge gone wild."
U.S. District Judge Richard Smoak issued a contempt citation and ordered Francis jailed after attorneys for seven women who sued Francis told the judge that the producer threatened them during settlement negotiations.
A defiant Francis, who makes a reported $29 million a year on his videos, told reporters that Judge Smoak had "lost his mind."
"This judge has gone as far as to call me the devil and an evildoer," he said. "It is a case of a judge gone wild."
Attorneys for Francis appealed the contempt citation, but a request to stay the contempt order pending the appeal was denied by Judge Smoak.
The seven women suing Francis were minors when they appeared in his videos.
