Neil Entwistle Pleads Not Guilty

Thursday February 16, 2006
A handcuffed and shackled Neil Entwistle entered a plea of not guilty to the first-degree murders of his wife and daughter the day after he was returned from England to face charges in the United States.

Entwistle's lawyer, Elliot M. Weinstein, entered a plea of not guilty for his 27-year-old client in a Framingham, Massachusetts courtroom. Entwistle was transported to the courtroom wearing a bullet proof vest. Weinstein believes it may be impossible for Entwistle to get a fair trial because of the intense media coverage of the case.

"That's what upsets me,” Weinstein told a crush of reporters outside the courthouse, "The volume, the content, the nature, the tone of the publicity that’s been generated to date."

Rachel Entwistle, 27, and her nine-month old daughter Lillian were found shot to death Jan. 22 under the covers of a bed in their Hopkinton home. Police believe they were shot Jan. 20 by Neil Entwistle, using a .22 caliber handgun he borrowed from his father-in-law's home and returned after the murders.

Entwistle flew to London on Jan. 21 and was returned to the U.S. last night after deciding not to fight extradition. He was ordered to be held in jail without bail.
