Suspected Serial Killer Gets Death Sentence
Jeremy Bryan Jones, who authorities believe may be connected to more than 10 other murders, has been sentenced to death for the rape and murder of Lisa Marie Nichols, 44, on Sept. 17, 2004 in Mobile, Alabama.
Calling Jones a "danger to civilized society" Judge Charles Graddick sentenced Jones to die by lethal injection. A jury voted 10-2 in October to recommend the death sentence.
In calling for the death sentence, Alabama Attorney General Troy King urged the judge to consider the "blood-chilling crime." "He targeted his prey like any predator," Alabama Attorney General Troy King told the judge before sentencing, "and has never shown even an ounce of remorse." King asked the judge to consider the "blood-chilling crime" in sentencing Jones.
Jones' defense attorney, Greg Hughes, asked the judge to consider Jones' extreme mental and emotional problems and long history of drug addiction as mitigating factors.
Jones now faces possible trials for murder in the death of Amanda Greenwell, a 16-year-old from Georgia, and Katherine Collins, a 45-year-old New Orleans woman.
