Milkshake-Murdering Wife to Appeal Conviction

Thursday September 8, 2005
An American woman who was convicted in Hong Kong for killing her banker husband by putting a date-rape drug into a milkshake and then beating him to death, plans to appeal her conviction and life sentence.

Nancy Kissel admitted to killing her husband, but said it was in self-defense because he tried to sexually assault her and began to beat her. The trial, which featured evidence of rough sex, marital violence and adultery, captured headlines in the Asian city.

Kissel also told the jury her husband, a prominent Merrill Lynch banker, planned to divorce her and take her children. Her lawyers could file an appeal as early as next week.
