Mark Hacking Pleads Guilty

Friday April 15, 2005
The Salt Lake City man who is accused of shooting his wife in the head while she slept and dumping her body in the garbage, where it was found five months later, has entered a plea of guilty to murder charges. Mark Hacking will be sentenced June 6, in what most observers believe is a plea agreement.

"I intentionally shot Lori Hacking in the head with a .22 rifle," Mark Hacking told Judge Denise Lindberg. Hacking looked down at the floor throughout the hearing -- not looking at either his family members or the family of his wife Lori during the appearance.

The case got national news media attention July 19 because Mark Hacking first reported that he wife did not return home from a morning jog and was missing.
