O.J. Simpson Lawyer Johnnie Cochran Dead at Age 67
Cochran, who coined the phrase, "If it doesn't fit, you must acquit" during the Simpson trial, was diagnosed with the tumor in December 2003.
"Certainly, Johnnie's career will be noted as one marked by 'celebrity' cases and clientele," a statement released by the family said. "But he and his family were most proud of the work he did on behalf of those in the community."
During his career, Cochran represented football star Jim Brown, actor Todd Bridges, rappers Tupac Shakur, Snoop Dogg and Sean "P. Diddy" Combs. He also represented Black Panther Elmer "Geronimo" Pratt, who spent 27 years in prison for a murder he did not commit.
Cochran made his reputation and built his law personal injury firm with more than 100 lawyers and offices in the United States by representing black defendants who were abused by the police.
