Police Release Sketch in Heeringa Case

By May 1, 2013

Police in Norton Shores, Michigan have released a sketch of a suspect in the disappearance of a 25-year-old gas station clerk who vanished last week. The sketch was produced with the help of a witness who saw the man driving the vehicle that may have been used to abduct Jessica Heeringa as she was closing the Exxon station last Friday.

Police believe the suspect may be someone that Heeringa knew from working at the store.

"We're assuming it could be somebody she knew or an acquaintance or a customer she built a rapport with," Norton Shores Police Chief Daniel Shaw said.

Shaw said his department has received hundreds of tips in the case while family members have posted flyers throughout the community with photos of Jessica. Police have also released a video of a silver minivan seen near the Sternberg Road Exxon/Mobile station.

Missing Since Friday

Heeringa was discovered missing after 11 p.m. Friday when a customer called police to report that there was no employee at the open gas station. Heeringa's purse, vehicle and other belongings were still there. There was no signs of a struggle, nor was there money missing from the cash register, police said.

Family members said Heeringa would have never voluntarily left her three-year-old son.

Anyone with information is asked to call 231-72-CRIME (231-722-7463) or 9-1-1.
