When Greta Van Sustern's television show on the Fox News channel shifted from her expert coverage of crime and punishment issues to the political arena, we grieved the loss, mainly because all that left us with was Nancy Grace. In other words, we mourned the absence of anything remotely resembling objective crime coverage on cable news television.At least on Greta's show guests were allowed to express opposing opinions and viewpoints without being interrupted, shouted down and held up to public ridicule, hatred and contempt.
Not so on Nancy Grace's Headline News show. Anyone who disagrees with the notion that all suspects are guilty until proven innocent - Nancy's maniacal approach to every story she covers - is demeaned and scorned as morons by the host.
Can Her, Doyle Suggests
Now we find that we are not alone in our anguish for the loss of objective journalism in the crime and punishment arena. Larry Doyle, writing for the women's online magazine Betty Confidential.com has asked the question, "Why Hasn't Nancy Grace Been Fired?."
Calling Grace "untruthful, unethical, hateful and often wrong," Doyle writes that she is a blight on cable television and is bad for civilization itself.
Pointing out that she was wrong about Gary Condit, the Duke Lacrosse rape case and accused Elizabeth Smart kidnapper Richard Ricci, Doyle says truth is just another victim in Grace's swath of destruction, along with justice.
'Not Terribly Bright'
Responding to Grace's recent remarks about the death of Whitney Houston, Doyle laments Grace's lack of human decency. In a recent About.com Crime & Punishment poll, most readers agreed, that she will say anything to try to boost her ratings.
Doyle writes that Grace's attitude that the mainstream media cannot be trusted and her use of "connect any dots" logic makes her a darling of the conspiracy theorists. It also makes her "not terribly bright, and she's contagious."
Losing the Ratings Race
Apparently, not too contagious. Nancy Grace's show languishes near the bottom of the ratings race for cable news television. On a typical night during her 8 p.m. time slot, Grace struggles to get less than 500,000 viewers while The O'Reilly Factor attracts 2.7 million.
In her 10 p.m. rerun time slot, she barely gets 230,000 viewers while Greta's "On the Record" draws 1.6 million. Grace barely noses out "American Greed" on CNBC, the perennial cable new cellar dweller.
But Headline News is not likely to can Nancy Grace anytime soon. With the primetime lineup of Jane Velez-Mitchell, Dr. Drew and "Showbiz Tonight," the network has demonstrated that objective news coverage is not in it's business plan.
Greta, we miss you.

Amen. There is plenty of market out there for an honest daily crime show. It’s beyond me why FOX or another network doesn’t fill the niche with an intelligent alternative to Nancy’s rantings.
Article is spot on! When I channel surf, as soon as I see her face or hear her shrill, demeaning voice — it is fingernails on the chalkboard and :cleaning womon” (Dead Men Don’t Wear Plaid). I set the world record for changing the channel. I will continue to watch her on GMA when she attempts her loud-joust with a lawyer with a brain. She proved on DWTS that her feet are as inept as her big mouth. Her bullying attempts of the loudest are the rightest have been persistent in her TV career. Someone must enjoy it. I’m glad her ratings are going down. Hopefully, Fox will get the memo.
Why her guests don’t simply leave when she interrupts them or cajols them is beyond me unless they are hard up to be on TV.
She and that shrill Ms.Mitchell are too much to handle so I flick the button.
You guys should have seen her in the x rated movies that she used to make she can deep throt a 12 incher

How come a liar can keep her job, or better yet why did they even give her a job? She lies convicts people in the media without a trial cuz shes the only broad who knows anything. Yet she is inherently wrong most of the time. She eve lied in her bok about her boyfriends killer not knowing him even after he said he knew him.
