Jackson Doc Won't Be Asked for Restitution

After consulting with Michael Jackson's family, prosecutors have decided not to seek restitution against the personal physician who was found guilty of the legendary pop singer's death. Deputy District Attorney David Walgren withdrew the request for restitution from Conrad Murray during a court hearing.

Last month, Murray filed papers with the court indicating that he was indigent anyway.

Walgren said he spoke with Jackson's mother Katherine, an attorney for his father Joseph, an attorney for the estate and an attorney for the singer's three children before making the decision to withdraw the restitution request.

Family Is Suing in Civil Court

Murray could have possibly been asked to pay restitution for the $100 million that his estate estimated Jackson would have made on his "This Is It" concert series as well as the $1.8 million costs of Jackson's funeral.

Judge Michael Pastor ruled that the family was permanently waiving its right to any restitution through the criminal court.

The civil courts are another matter. Katherine Jackson is suing AEG Live, promoter of the "This Is It" concerts, for not properly supervising Dr. Murray.

Joseph Jackson is also suing AEG Live for negligence and is also suing Murray for wrongful death.
