Weekly Crime Poll: GPS Tracking of Sex Offenders

By , About.com GuideJanuary 14, 2011

Follow me on:

Allegheny County, located in southwestern Pennsylvania has over 1,100 registered sex offenders and now 43 of them are wearing a GPS-type monitoring device as part of their parole.

Those being tracked with the device will set off a pager when they venture into an excluded zone, such as schools, daycare centers, playgrounds and other facilities where children congregate. Police are alerted and at that point the sex offender could be arrested which could result in being returned to prison.

Poll: Do you agree with the policy of using GPS tracking on sex offenders?

I want to know why Texas lets these criminals out of jail?? Why dont they have laws like the state of Massachusetts? I feel once they have violated a child or even an adult they need to be put away forever no chance of getting out..Maybe its time we get rid of the politics in this and these crooked judges who allow them to get out and get back to basics….we need judges and juries that frown on this behavior..Time to change the laws and get stricter with these people…they are just a waste to society..

GPS? ok that will let someone know where they are but not what child is being violated. I have an idea.. a bullet between the eye will save a child. A man has spent 30 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. Charles Manson 41 years has been protected, clothed and fed for 41 years. Susan Smith is being housed and fed 3 meals a day for not protecting her children. We know parents are abusing and killing their own children yet within 24hrs of the Arizona shootings, lawmakers gather to write laws to protect themselves. hmmmm and we pay these people? ONCE A PEDOPHILE HAS BEEN CAUGHT, ITS NOT HIS FIRST TIME OF MOLESTING A CHILD, BUT DAMN WELL BETTER BE HIS LAST. UNTILL THESE PIGS ARE EXTERMINATED, KNOW THY NEIGHBOR BECAUSE YOUR CHILD IS NEXT. GPS..WHAT A JOKE

GPS is a start I think personal implants are even a better idea, but it is true that monitoring is not the answer. Death is the only answer and I dont want to hear that Death is horrid You sit there and look into the face of a child after this has happened or worse yet look into the face of your OWN child.I can promise you that you would do anything to make that pain go away. Our son was raped my his freakshow of a step father and I would gladly walk up to this scum and blow in head right off his shoulders just to get that look of his face. Plus I woeked in a prison where 97% of the population was sex offenders and I’ll tel you what all they are doing is sitting there wait to get out or sitting there remembering their victums.!!

I read a good portion of all of your comments. Many of you say ‘these filthy pigs’, what about the ones who deal drugs to our kids? what about the murderers? Shouldnt they be treated the same? I’m on gps for being a RSO. I have been on probation for 3.5 years and have attended weekly treatment in a group setting. My crime was child ponography. I won’t say i’ve been rehabed but i’ve learned how to control my urges and now live a healthy productive life.

The gps is a nice deterent but there is more to it, gps is not the complete solution. People can change and do change. I know many that have. You call us pigs, how many of you have cheated on your wife or your husband or boyfriend? How many of you have cheated on your taxes or stolen something?

Sex offending while a horrible crime is about lying, but so is thievery, or adultery.
Chew on that for a while.
