Green River Killer Suspected in Oregon Murder

By , About.com GuideJune 24, 2010

Follow me on:

Gary Ridgway, known as the Green River Killer, avoided execution in Washington state by confessing to the murders of 48 women may not be out of the woods yet as far the death penalty is concerned. A detective in Oregon believes that Ridgway is responsible for the deaths of at least two women in that state.

If he can prove they were killed in Oregon, Ridgway could possibly face the death penalty in that state.

The case that Detective Ray Marcom is the murder of Angela Girdner (pictured above). Girdner remains were found in 1985 near a road in Tualitin, Oregon close to the remains of Denise Bush and Shirley Sherill, both admitted victims of the Green River Killer.

Ridgway confessed to the murders of Bush and Sherill, but he has never admitted to the murder of Girdner. Marcom believes that the reason he never confessed to her murder is because she was killed in Oregon, where his Washington plea deal cannot protect him. If she was killed in Oregon, Ridgway could be prosecuted in Oregon.

Trying to Locate Witnesses

"I believe she died in Oregon," Marcom said. "I have not found any evidence to show that she was ever in Washington state."

Marcom is trying to locate a witness, Charles William Wakefield III, who was Angela Girdner's pimp when she disappeared. The detective believes Wakefield may be able to link Ridgway to her disappearance.

The Girdner case came to the surface recently when her remains were found again - at an Oregon medical examiner's office where they had been misplaced 25 years ago.

(1) Law Help says:

Pre-paid legal plans offer a range of legal services on-call for a fixed
monthly charge of up to $25 per month. With such a low monthly payment,
most people are only too happy to get a legal coverage they wouldnt have
otherwise dreamt of in the stultifying, money-grabbing world of lawyers…
But did you know, you could get all of that coverage free of charge?

They’re a lot of anti-social people out there. It doesn’t mean that they’re all demented. Just because a handful of people become, not over night mind you, serial killers or mass murderers, doesn’t mean the whole group, if you will, are demented or psychotic. It just means that something went off in their heads quicker, or they could not over come the feeling of emptiness, loneliness or any other emotions that they may have felt. And people who are anti-social, you can’t be with them all of the time. It’s not practical. Or logical. If they are anti-social, you would not get any response or any interactions out of them. Now with Ridgeway, he was troubled, yes. But, no one knew that anything was wrong. His family never even knew. No one can tell when people will snap. You can’t expect to know everything. But everyone, everywhere always asks the same question, “Why?”. And truthfully, no one will come to a conclusive answer, but Ridgeway himself.
