Ignoring a request from defense attorneys for more time, a Florida judge has set a trial date for a suspected serial killer. Gary Michael Hilton will go on trial July 12 for the murder of Cheryl Dunlap of Crawfordville.Hilton previous confessed to the murder of a woman who was hiking in the North Georgia Mountains.
Leon County Circuit Court Judge Terry Lewis set the trial date after state attorneys requested a date during a case-management conference. The public defender's office requested a later date.
Hilton, 62, has already confessed to the kidnapping and murder of Meredith Emerson in the north Georgia mountains and is serving a life sentence for her death. He is also the main suspect in the deaths of a couple killed in North Carolina.
