Fake Cop Charged With Child Sex Assault

Friday December 26, 2008
A 23-year-old Florida man arrested for impersonating an officer of the law has also been charged with the rape of two 12-year-old boys in 2006. Ryan William Churchill has been charged with sexual assault with a weapon and sexual assault by a custodian on a victim between 12 and 18.

Police have seized Churchill's laptop and expect to file more charges.

Churchill was originally arrested Dec. 5 for impersonating an officer. Police said he has pretended to be a Palm Beach County sheriff's deputy and a federal law enforcement officer.

After viewing pictures on his laptop of Churchill committing sex acts, charges were filed in the case of the two 12-year-olds. But police suspect that there may be many other victims.

Other Victims Out There?

"We believe there's a lot more incidents where he's been posing as a police officer and there's other victims from the sex crimes," sheriff's Detective Alfredo Araujo said.

Anyone with information about Churchill in regards to him impersonating an officer or sexual assaults are asked to call Palm Beach detectives at (561) 776-2100 or contact Crime Stoppers at (800) 458-TIPS (8477) or email tips @ cspbc.net.
