Man Who Cooked Girlfriend Dies in Jail

Tuesday December 9, 2008
The Texas Rangers are investigating the death of a man who was accused of killing his girlfriend and cooking some of her body parts. Authorities do not suspect foul play in the death of Christopher McCuin, who was in a jail cell by himself.

McCuin, 25, was accused of killing his girlfriend Jana Shearer, 21.

An autopsy has been ordered for McCuin who was pronounced dead after being taken to the East Texas Medical Center in Tyler from the Smith County Jail.

In January, police said they found an ear boiling in a pot on the stovetop of McCuin's mother's house. The also found a large piece of human flesh on a plate and another impaled on a fork on the kitchen table. They arrived at the scene after McCuin called police and told them what he was doing.

Investigators were not certain if McCuin had actually consumed any of the human flesh. He was charged with capital murder.
