Brother-in-Law Arrested in Jennifer Hudson Case
The estranged brother-in-law of Jennifer Hudson has been arrested in connection with the death of the singer's mother, brother and young nephew in their Chicago home. William Balfour was arrested at Stateville Correctional Center where he was being held on parole violation charges.Until his arrest, Balfour had been considered a person of interest in the October 24 murders.
Darnell Hudson Donerson, mother of Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Hudson, and Jason Hudson, her brother, were found shot to death at the family home on the South Side of Chicago October 24. Three days later, the body of 7-year-old Julian King, Hudson's nephew, was found in a SUV parked on the West Side. He also had been shot.
Balfour was taken into custody the day the first two bodies were found and held for 48 hours. He was then taken into custody by the Illinois Department of Corrections on suspected parole violation.
Police said they found the gun used in the murders. A .45-caliber gun was found Oct. 29 in a vacant lot in the West Side neighborhood where King's body was found.
But Balfour's family members say police have no evidence linking him to the deaths.
"If they found gun powder on his hands, you got a case; if they found a gun on him, he had a case; if they found a fingerprint on the truck that he did this, you got a case; but they don't have nothing," Balfour's mother, Michelle Davis-Balfour told reporters.
Balfour had not yet been officially charged in the case as of late Monday.
