'Missing Mom' Suspect Posts $1 Million Bail

Monday December 1, 2008
The New Jersey man who is suspected in the murder of his mistress and mother of his 11-month-old son has been released from jail after posting a $1 million bond. Rosario DiGirolamo was charged with the murder of 27-year-old Amy Giordano whose dismembered body was found in a suitcase at the bottom of a pond.

DiGirolamo has been held in New Jersey jail since he was charged in March.

His release from jail was conditional. DiGirolamo must stay in his parents' home and wear an electronic tracking device. His passport was confiscated.

Investigators say DiGirolamo, who is married, decided to kill Giordano because he could no longer afford to support two households. Giordano disappeared in June after going grocery shopping with DiGirolamo and their son.

The next day 11-month-old Michael DiGirolamo was found in a Newark, Delaware hospital parking lot with a handwritten note on his diaper that called him "John Vincent." The person writing the note said they had no job or health insurance. "God have mercy on me," the note said.

DiGirolamo has pleaded guilty to abandoning the baby at the hospital, but he denies involvement in Giodano's death.

However, police arrested DiGirolamo after an accomplice, John A. Russo, Jr., admitted to helping him dispose of the body by buying drain cleaner, reinforced garbage bags and a saw blade. See Also:

What a grisly and unfortunate story. I’m very surprised that a judge allowed a bail bond to be posted, given the violent nature of this crime and his obvious mental instability. You’d think a case like that would be a high flight risk even if he didn’t have any passport.
