Warden's Wife Facing Trial for Helping Escapee

Wednesday October 29, 2008
The wife of an Oklahoma prison warden who claimed she was a prison escapee's kidnap victim for 10 years will now face trial for helping that inmate escape. Bobbi Parker has been ordered to stand trial for helping Randolph Dial escape from the Oklahoma State Reformatory in Granite in 1994.

The ruling came after a preliminary hearing into Parker's behavior during the 10 years that she was supposedly Dial's kidnap victim.

The judge's ruling came after evidence presented during the hearing showed that Dial and Parker appeared to be living as husband and wife, sharing the same bed, while living together on a Texas chicken ranch.

Parker told investigators that she was never intimate with Dial and she was not attracted to him. But at the hearing, authorities said in the trailer where they were living they found a box of condoms, Viagra instructions, a vibrating sex toy and a love letter Parker wrote to Dial.

After more than 10 years, authorities found Dial and Parker living on the chicken ranch, where they were often seen sitting on the front porch swing drinking coffee together. In April, Parker was officially charged with helping Dial escapee.

Dial Died in 2007

Randolph Dial was given a life sentence for the 1981 murder of karate instructor Kelly Hogan. Because he was a sculptor and painter with a master's degree in art, Dial was put in charge of the prison's inmate pottery program. He lived outside the prison's walls and he used a kiln in the Parker's garage.

Although Dial claimed he forced Parker to stay with him, authorities believe that the two were romantically involved before the escape and Parker helped him escape by putting Dial in the trunk of her car and driving away from the prison.

Parker's family members told reporters that it is time to put the incident behind them. Dial died in prison in 2007.

I don’t understand why this is going to trial. There was a book in the news a while back that Dial himself had wrote. I think he said in it that he kidnapped her and kept her against her will the whole time. “In the Wind” it’s called. Definitely have to read it now.

She never contacted her husband or family in the ten years. She had plenty of chances to escape from him.
