Man Guilty of Texas Student's Dismemberment

Friday October 10, 2008
A 28-year-old Texas man has been convicted of killing his 19-year-old girlfriend, dismembering her body and burning her remains on two outdoor grills on his patio. Timothy Wayne Shepherd was found guilty of the murder of Texas A&M freshman Tynesha Stewart in March 2007.

The jury deliberated for four hours before returning its verdict.

Shepherd's attorneys argued during the trial that the prosecution did not present enough evidence to convict him beyond a reasonable doubt.

However, prosecutors pointed out that Shepherd confessed to choking Stewart, dismembering her body and burning the remains on the grills on his apartment patio. Police found 30 pieces of Stewart's charred bone and hair from his apartment.

Did Not Search Landfills

The case became even more controversial when authorities announced that they would not search the landfills for Stewart's body, after Shepherd led them to the dumpster where he said he put the body parts. Officials later revealed that they knew there were no remains to be found, because Shepherd burned them.

The jury will now determine sentencing for Shepherd. Prosecutors are not seeking the death penalty.

OK, let’s see here. You publish an article about a man who kills his girlfriend and BBQs her remains on two outdoor grills. Then right next to it, you run an ad for Safeway depicting large hunks of meat that reads, “Grilling tonight? Try something juicy, fun, healthy. Click for recipes” You folks and Safeway either have a strange sense of humor, or a strange sense of ad placement.

OK. So you got rid of the Safeway ad. But you kept ads for outdoor BBQ grills from Direct Outdoor Living, grills at Ace Hardware and Lynx Professional Grills. In addition. you ran an ad from Consumer Reports evaluating who has the best gas grills, and (again for those of you who just tuned in) you did all this in connection with a story about a guy who BBQs his dead girlfriend’s remains on two outdoor grills????? What’s wrong with you people?
