Police Seize Gun From Caylee's Grandfather's Car

Monday September 8, 2008
Just hours after Casey Anthony, mother of missing toddler Caylee Anthony, was bailed out of jail for the second time, Orlando authorites made a move apparently aimed at getting her back behind bars. Police removed a handgun from the trunk of George Anthony's car and turned in over to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Part of the stipulations of Casey's release from jail included "not possess or have in my residence or in my vehicle any deadly weapons."

Casey Anthony was released Friday morning after her family posted her $500,000 bond. Late Friday night, police seized the handgun from her father's car, saying they were acting on a tip.

After the gun was seized, corrections officials contacted the judge on duty, Judge Daniel Dawson, about the violation of her bail stipulation. Dawson said he would take no action until he talked with Circuit Judge Stan Strickland, who issued the bail order.

Constitutional Rights Violated?

On Saturday, Judge Strickland said because there was no indication that Casey knew the gun was in the trunk of her father's car, he would not return her to jail.

Casey Anthony was previously bailed out of jail by a California bounty hunter, who later rescinded the bond when she was arrested on additional check fraud charges.

Her family was able to bail her out again when an anonymous donor gave them the $50,000 for two Orlando bail bond firms.

Casey Anthony's attorney said the donor posted the bond, "because of the belief that Ms. Anthony's constitutional rights have been grossly violated."

Search for Caylee Suspended

Meanwhile, Texas EquuSearch suspended the search for the missing Caylee Marie Anthony after almost a month of daily searches involving up to 2,500 volunteers. Tim Miller, the group's founder and director, said the high water remaining from Tropical Storm Fay is preventing them from clearing areas.

"We know where Caylee's not at," Miller said adding that the group will return when conditions improve. "If Caylee's out there, we are going to find her."

Caylee has not been seen since June 16. She was not reported missing until July, and investigators believe she is probably dead. Sheriff Kevin Beary said the investigation will continue.

What a bizarre case. The sensationalistic coverage of this family is doing more harm than good.

I THINK YOUR 100% RIGHT. WHY CAN’T THEY JUST PUT HER IN JAIL LIKE THEY WOULD DO YOU OR ME, IS IT BECAUSE HER FATHER WAS ON THE POLICE FORCE? WHY IS SHE GETTING ALL THIS SPECIAL TREATMENT? IF ONE OF MY GRANDAUGHTERS WERE MISSING I WOULD BE OUT HUNTING FOR HER UNTILL DARK THEN I WOULD PROBALY BE ON MY DAUGHTER TO TELL ME THE TRUTH OR SHE WOULD WANT TO BE IN JAIL TO BE AWAY FROM ME. I DONT KNOW THESE PEOPLE BUT ANYONE THAT HURTS A CHILD OR MISSPLACED THEM SHOULD BE PUNISHED NOT HONEYED UP LIKE THIS CRAZY BUNCH.
