9-1-1 Transcripts Released in Caylee Anthony Case
After being criticized in the national media by the grandmother of a missing 2-year-old girl, Orlando authorities have released transcripts of two 9-1-1 calls made on July 15 in which the grandmother herself reports to police that her daughter's vehicle "smells like there's been a dead body in the damn car."The statements on the call to police contrast widely with those Cindy Anthony has been making to the media regarding her daughter, Casey Anthony, 22, and her child, Caylee Anthony, who has been missing since June 9.
Cindy Anthony, the grandmother of missing Caylee Marie Anthony, called 9-1-1 twice on July 15. During the first call she requested that police come to her home to arrest Casey, her daughter and the mother of Caylee, for car theft and for stealing money.
In the second call Cindy Anthony sounds very upset and tells the 9-1-1 operator that her granddaughter has been missing for over a month and her daughter's car smells like a dead body has been inside it.
Contrasting Statements to the Media
In the days since that call to police for help, Cindy Anthony has been careful not to say anything negative about her daughter Casey (left), insisting that she needs to be released from jail so that she can help in the search for Caylee. Unlike Casey's friends, Cindy Anthony will not confirm that her daughter is a habitual liar and a thief, although that is what she reported to police July 15.
She has also suggested to reporters that the smell in the trunk of the car was rotting garbage, such as leftover pizza, left in the heat. But that is not how she described the smell in the call to police in those first moments after she discovered Caylee had been missing for more than a month.
Meanwhile, Casey Anthony remains in jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond and apparently is still not giving investigators any information about the possible location of her missing daughter.
Georgia Sightings of Caylee 'Bogus'
Several news media outlets reported that Caylee Anthony had been spotted in Georgia, reporting that a witness asked a little girl her name and the girl mispronounced "Anthony" in the same way that Caylee does. However law enforcement officials in Cornelia, Georgia debunked those reports.
"I think it's bogus," said Cornelia Police Chief Rick Darby. White County Sheriff DeRay Fincher also said he had no reason to believe the reports.
"There's nothing to it," Fincher said. "I've checked with 9-1-1 several times throughout the day. We've had no calls about it. The people in Florida have not contacted us about any possible sightings. We've had no communication from anyone about anything, except news media, related to this. We've had not one 9-1-1 call about it."
