Newspapers Seek Eva Carson Autopsy Results
Two newspapers have filed motions requesting that the sealed autopsy results of University of North Carolina student body president Eve Carson be released along with contents of search warrants issued in her murder case. Prosecutors argue releasing the information could hamper the on-going investigation.
Superior Court Judge Allen Baddour ordered last week that the autopsy results remain sealed. Earlier this month, District Attorney Jim Woodall asked the judge to seal the results, saying releasing them could cause speculation about their significance.
Judge Baddour refused to release affidavits attached to search warrants issued in the case because information in those attachments could lead to the identification of confidential informants.
Cause of Death Not Released
A hearing is planned next week on the sealed autopsy results.
Police found Carson's body March 5 in a street near the campus after responding to a shots fired call. One police report connected with the case mentioned Carson being shot in the head, but authorities have never released information about her exact cause of death.
Arrested in the case and charged with first-degree murder are James Atwater, 21, and Laurence Alvin Lovette Jr., 17. Both were on probation at the time of Carsno's death.

No, I want the butality of what these guys did to be fresh in the jurers’ minds when they decide on the sentencing.
There is no public interest in the newspaper’s request for release of the information and to wrap it in some high mind “right to know” and “freedom of the press” shows how low today’s journalism standards have become.
