Former Teacher Gets 6 Months for Sex Crime
A former Arizona teacher has been sentenced to six months in jail for having a sexual relationship with one of her students at Paradise Valley High School. Jennifer Mally, 27, pleaded guilty in March to three felony charges of sexual conduct with a 16-year-old student.
Mally, a former English teacher and cheerleader sponsor, could have received up to six years for the three felonies. Instead, she received six months and a scolding from the judge.
"As you well know, you, not the victim, are the adult," the Maricopa County Superior Court judge told Mally. "You had every opportunity to stop the relationship from developing to the point where inappropriate sexual conduct occurred, yet you chose instead to participate."
She was originally charged with 29 criminal counts involving sexual acts with the male student from October 2006 to April 2007. At her sentencing, two dozen of her students and her husband appeared to support her.
