Book: O.J. Simpson Confessed to Murders
A former friend and memorabilia dealer has written a tell-all book about O.J. Simpson in which he claims the former NFL star confessed to killing Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman. Mike Gilbert says Simpson confessed while taking sleeping pills, smoking marijuana and drinking beer at his Brentwood home just weeks after the murders.
In Gilbert's book, "How I Helped O.J. Get Away With Murder: The Shocking Inside Story of Violence, Loyalty, Regret and Remorse," he also says he helped Simpson avoid conviction by telling him how to make his hands bloat up so that the glove found at the crime scene would not fit.
Gilbert writes that he told Simpson during his murder trial to stop taking his arthritis medicine so his hands would swell up and not fit the bloody gloves.
According to the book, Simpson told Gilbert that he did not take a knife with him when he went over to Nicole's condominium on the night of the murders. He said Nicole had a knife in her hand when she answered the door.
"If she hadn't opened that door with a knife in her hand ... she'd still be alive," Simpson said, according to Gilbert.
Attorney Denies Gibert's Claims
Simpson's attorney Yale Galanter denied all of the claims in Gilbert's book.
"Gilbert is a delusional drug addict who needs money. He's fallen on very hard times. He is in trouble with the IRS," Galanter told reporters. "This stuff not only didn't occur but it's not factually supported by the evidence."
In the book, Gilbert also says for 10 years after the murders he helped Simpson sell his autographed sports items and hide the profits so that the Goldman family could not find them. Although Simpson was found not guilty in criminal court, the Goldmans won a multi-million wrongful death suit against him in civil court.
