Nichols Wants New Judge Removed
Attorneys for the man accused of shooting his way out of the Atlanta Courthouse during his trial on rape charges have filed a motion asking the new judge in the case to step down. Brian Nichols' defense team claims the judge should recuse himself because he was a friend of one of the victims.
The attorneys point to an article in the Marietta Daily Journal after the courthouse shootings in which Superior Court Judge James Bodiford said he was a friend of Judge Rowland Barnes, who Nichols is accused of killing. In the article, Judge Bodiford called the crime a "brutal murder."
Bodiford was appointed to preside over Nichols' trial after the previous judge in the case stepped down when it was discovered that he said in a magazine article about Nichols that "everyone in the world knows he did it."
