A small island in Galveston Bay where a fisherman found the remains of two-year-old Riley Ann Sawyers in a plastic container has been named after the girl in the "Baby Grace" case. The island has been named "Riley's Island" by the Hitchcock, Texas, City Commission
The "Baby Grace" case made national headlines after a fisherman found the body of the then unknown two-year-old on Oct. 29, 2007. A police artist drew a sketch of the youngster which was distributed worldwide. The sketch led to the identification of the girl as Riley Ann Sawyers.
After DNA tests confirmed her identity, Riley Ann's mother, Kimberly Dawn Trenor, and her stepfather, Royce Clyde Zeigler III, were charged with first-degree murder. They have been in Galveston County Jail since November.
The small island where her body was found became a make-shift shrine to Riley's memory. The city commission voted to name the island in honor of Riley Ann after receiving a petition containing more than 4,000 names.
