Serial Killer Gets 5 More Sentences

Monday April 7, 2008
A confessed serial killer has received five additional life sentences after pleading guilty to killing five women in Missouri in a plea deal that once again allowed him to avoid the death penalty. Timothy Krajcir, 63, received five consecutive life sentences for five murders that took place three decades ago.

Krajcir is already serving 80 years for two murders in southern Illinois. He has admitted to the murders of nine women in four states, including Missouri, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Kentucky. Krajcir still faces charges in Pennsylvania and Kentucky.

Last week, Krajcir pleaded guilty to five murders and three other rapes in the Cape Girardeau area in the late 1970s and the early 1980s.

Promises to Counsel Others

He has been in prison since 1983 on sexual assault charges. He confessed to the murders after DNA evidence linked him to some of the crimes. He has been given plea deals in all of the cases so far that eliminated the possibility of the death penalty.

During the sentencing hearing, Krajcir tearfully apologized to the families of his victims and vowed to spend the rest of his days consoling younger sex offenders in treatment programs.

"I'll do everything in my power in coming years to help as many people as I can, to make sure things like this never happen again," Krajcir said.
